SWANZEY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – Authorities appear to have taken the subject of a standoff at a home on South Road in Swanzey into custody moments ago.
WKBK’s Sean Patrik was near the scene talking with a police officer who was called away to help take the man into custody shortly before 1:00 pm Thursday afternoon.
WKBK has also learned from Town Administrator Michael Branley that the home involved at 231 South Road is a multi-family building, and the initial disturbance call shortly before 10:00 Wednesday evening was for a noise complaint from one of the tenants in the building.
In a news release around 10:00 Thursday morning Branley said when officers responded to that disturbance call Wednesday night that they were met with a man holding a pistol. They retreated and attempted to communicate with him to deescalate the situation. The situation appears to have continued throughout the night, and when WKBK arrived on scene around 7:15 this morning police could be heard trying to communicate with the man.
The release notes there is no danger to public safety, but residents in the area were evacuated throughout the night out of an abundance of caution. Nobody was injured in the evacuations.
This remains a developing situation. Check back with MyKeeneNow.com and tune in to WKBK at AM 1290 and FM 94.1 for live updates. Branley said more information will be released as it becomes available. See our initial report here.
