BRATTLEBORO, VT (MyKeeneNow) A Burlington man was arrested Saturday night after reportedly threatening staff at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

Brattleboro Police responded to the hospital around 10:50 p.m. following reports that a man claimed to have a firearm and was threatening hospital employees. Officers took 58-year-old Mark E. Mahardy into custody after their investigation. However, no weapon was found at the scene.

This was the second incident involving a patient who was put under arrest at the hospital in Brattleboro in less than a week. Last Tuesday, a Berlin man was taken into custody for assaulting staff members.

Mahardy was charged with assault on a protected official and was held on $200 bail at the Southern State Correctional Facility. He is scheduled to appear today in Vermont Superior Court’s Windham Criminal Division.

Authorities remind the public that anyone arrested or cited is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
