SWANZEY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The Carlton Covered Bridge and a section of Carlton Road will remain closed to through traffic longer than originally planned as weather and work conditions slowed progress on the project.

Town officials said Friday that crews were unable to complete the redecking work as scheduled due to inclement weather earlier this week and unforeseen conditions at the site. The bridge had been expected to reopen at the start of the week.

The town now anticipates the work will wrap up by the middle of next week, with the bridge and roadway reopening as soon as it is safe to do so.

During the continued closure, motorists are advised to follow the established detour using Whitcomb Road to reach Route 32 and South Road.

Residents with questions or concerns can contact the Swanzey Department of Public Works at 352-7116.
