RUTLAND, VT (MyKeeneNow) A 23-year-old New Hampshire woman is facing felony charges in Vermont following an investigation into alleged online child sexual exploitation, authorities said this week.
The Vermont Attorney General’s Office announced that Alysha Devoe of Charlestown, N.H., who formerly lived in Rutland, VT, was arraigned Tuesday in Vermont Superior Court’s Rutland Criminal Division. Prosecutors charged Devoe with one felony count of using a child in a sexual performance and one felony count of possessing child sexual abuse material.
According to officials, the case stems from an investigation led by the Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a multi-agency unit that includes investigators from the Attorney General’s Office. The inquiry began after the task force received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The report was submitted by the social media platform Kik, which flagged an image believed to depict child sexual abuse material uploaded from an electronic device.
Investigators later executed search warrants and conducted follow-up investigative work that, authorities allege, linked Devoe to both the possession of the image and the exploitation of a child.
At her arraignment, Devoe entered not guilty pleas to both charges. Judge Cortland Corsones set a $5,000 unsecured appearance bond and imposed conditions of release, including restrictions intended to limit her contact with the alleged victims and with minors.
The Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force focuses on crimes involving the online sexual exploitation of children, including the creation and distribution of child sexual abuse material. In addition to investigations, the task force provides forensic analysis, technical support to law enforcement agencies, specialized training, and public education efforts.
Officials also encouraged the public to report suspected online exploitation of children. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children operates the CyberTipline, a national reporting system for concerns ranging from online enticement and child sexual abuse material to trafficking and other forms of exploitation. Reports can be made by calling 1-800-843-5678 or submitting information online through the CyberTipline.
Resources are also available for individuals affected by child sexual exploitation, including assistance with emotional support, mental health referrals, and efforts to remove harmful content from the internet.
