JAFFREY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A child was rescued after suffering a serious fall on Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire on the afternoon of Aug. 13.
The incident occurred on the White Cross Trail, where the hiker, a minor, fell approximately eight feet and landed on their head, resulting in severe injuries, said N.H. Fish and Game in a news release.
Fish and Game was alerted just before 4:30 p.m. by Southwestern New Hampshire District Fire Mutual Aid. Monadnock Park Rangers were first to respond, quickly stabilizing the injured hiker. Given the severity of the injuries, a coordinated rescue effort was initiated.
A team comprising Monadnock Park Rangers, the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, several good Samaritans, and Conservation Officers worked together to carry the victim down the trail. The rescue team reached the waiting Jaffrey-Rindge ambulance around 8 p.m., and the hiker was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for further treatment.
