KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Keene residents remain under a citywide ban on outdoor burning and consumer fireworks as officials monitor heightened fire danger in the Monadnock Region.

The restrictions, in place since 9 a.m. Saturday, were enacted after the New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands rated the region’s weekend fire danger as “moderate.” That classification means some wildfires could occur, though they are typically manageable with routine caution.

City officials said the ban will remain until conditions improve, with updates posted to the city’s website. The Forests and Lands division updates daily fire danger ratings each weekday morning, with weekend assessments released on Friday afternoons.

The state uses a five-tier National Fire Danger Rating System, ranging from “Low” to “Extreme,” to guide restrictions. Even under a “moderate” rating, officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary ignition risks.

For current fire danger updates, the Division of Forests and Lands posts daily reports on its X account and provides information via its wildfire information line at 866-NH-FIRES. Details on Keene’s burn rules and permits are available at keenenh.gov/fire.
