KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – Keene Mayor Jay Kahn has officially thrown his support behind Colin Van Ostern, in a significant development in New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District race.
The endorsement was announced yesterday outside City Hall, where Mayor Kahn and Van Ostern appeared together to make the announcement, according to a news release. The support adds to a growing list of endorsements for Van Ostern, including those from Nashua’s Mayor Jim Donchess, Concord’s Mayor Byron Champlin, Lebanon’s Mayor Tim McNamara, and Claremont’s Mayor Dale Girard.
Mayor Kahn emphasized the importance of Van Ostern’s experience and deep ties to the region, citing his work on issues critical to Keene and surrounding communities.
“Colin has proven himself as a dedicated advocate for the people of Cheshire County during his time on the Executive Council,” Kahn said in the release. “He understands the challenges we face, from workforce development and attracting employers to the need for affordable housing and quality childcare.”
Kahn highlighted specific accomplishments of Van Ostern, including his efforts to secure funding for Keene’s Planned Parenthood health center, expand Medicaid coverage, and revive the Hinsdale bridge project after years of delays. “Colin’s commitment to our community is unmatched. We know him, we trust him, and we’ve seen the tangible results of his work,” Kahn added.
Expressing his gratitude, Van Ostern stated, “Mayor Kahn’s endorsement is a tremendous honor and reflects our shared vision for the future of Keene and the entire district. I am committed to continuing the fight for the issues that matter most to our communities, and I am grateful for the trust and support Mayor Kahn has placed in me.”
Van Ostern, a former two-term Executive Councilor and business leader, is running for Congress on a platform focused on making Washington work for everyday people. He has been a prominent advocate for women’s health, workers’ rights, and affordable healthcare throughout his career.
