How it Happened

After the Owls had the first scoring opportunity of the day, but Cristian Correa’s shot was saved by Malcolm Edwards, Rick Da Moura netted the first goal of the day for the Falcons, coming at 12 minutes into the contest. Correa fired another two shots shortly after, but after he missed both his attempts, Jack Corby tied the game up at one apiece for the Owls on his first career collegiate goal at the 20:01 mark. Over the next eight minutes the Owls continued to apply the offensive pressure on the Falcons as they recorded three more shots on frame. After Edwards saved the first of the three, a turnover by FSU allowed for Correa to easily score the go-ahead goal in the 28th minute. Late in the first half FSU tried to draw even, but Mateu Farre-Torres made a save and the other two shots from the Falcons missed the goal as KSC took their 2-1 lead into the half.

Over the first 10 minutes of the second half, KSC had four shots but none of them were on target, compared to two shots on goal from FSU that Carson Flake, the Owls’ starting goalie in the second half, saved both for KSC to preserve the lead early in the second. In the 60th minute, four minutes following getting a yellow card, Dorian Wilczynski picked up an assist on Correa’s second goal of the day as KSC jumped to a 3-1 lead two-thirds through the contest. Over the next 10 minutes of action, FSU started to try to make a comeback but only one of their six shots reached the target, which Flake saved. KSC’s attack continued to pressure the Falcons late in the contest, and they broke once again with 47 seconds remaining as Woodley Jean Baptiste assisted Claudio Pizzacarola for his first career collegiate goal to put the final nail in the coffin for KSC. FSU still tried to mount a comeback in the closing minute as following a red card to Esteban Henao, on the ensuing free kick, Flake saved the first shot, but the rebound fell to Justin Job as he scored with one second remaining and FSU cut the final score to 4-2.
