PUTNEY, VT (MyKeeneNow) A New Hampshire woman has been cited after authorities say she struck a dog with her vehicle and left the scene of the crash Tuesday morning in Putney.
According to the Vermont State Police, troopers were notified around 8:20 a.m. of a single-vehicle incident on Westminster Road near McKinnon Road. The crash occurred during rainy conditions, with wet pavement reported at the time.
Investigators later identified the driver as 68-year-old Marcy Smith of Alstead, New Hampshire. Police said Smith was operating a 2015 Toyota RAV4 when the vehicle struck a dog in the roadway.
Authorities allege Smith did not remain at the scene following the collision. She later reported to the Westminster Barracks, where she was processed and issued a citation.
Smith is scheduled to appear in Windham County criminal court in May to answer a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. No injuries to the driver were reported, and damage to the vehicle was described as minor.
Officials did not release additional details about the condition of the dog.
