(MyKeeneNow) – Emanuel A. Lagerberg, 85, life-long resident of Keene, died Saturday, Aug. 10, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born in Keene, Jan. 14, 1939, son of Albert E. and Josephine A. (Papineau) Lagerberg. He attended area schools and went on to serve in the United States Air Force as a Fire Protection Specialist.

In 1961, Emanuel married the love of his life, Margaret Blanchard. They celebrated many wonderful years together until her passing in 2004.

Emanuel had a true passion for firefighting and had worked at several departments throughout the years. He spent a majority of his career at Manchester Regional Airport from which he retired as Chief.

He found true fulfillment in helping others and would bend over backwards for anyone in need. He enjoyed tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. He was happiest when he was able to visit with family and tend to yardwork at his daughter Peg’s home.

Emanuel will be dearly missed by his daughter: Peg Clay and her husband Bob of Spofford, NH; son: Frederick Lagerberg of Keene, NH; grandchildren: Mindy McAvoy and her husband Ryan, Derrick Lagerberg, Melissa Lagerberg, Jamie Lagerberg, Matthew McAvoy and his wife Karli, and Brendan McAvoy; several great and great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Sandra, Nancy, and Carol; as well many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and fire department member friends.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, he was predeceased by his grandchildren: Sara Clay and Michael McAvoy; and brothers Gary Lagerberg and Richard Lagerberg.

Calling hours will be held at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH on Monday, August 19, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A graveside service with military honors will take place on Tuesday the 20th at 11:00 am at Monadnock View cemetery, Park Ave, Keene, NH.

Memorial donations in Emanuel A. Lagerberg’s name are requested to be made to St, Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 03105 (www.StJude.org).

Fletcher Funeral Home has been entrusted with Emanuel’s arrangements. (www.fletcherfuneralhome.com)
