SWANZEY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A two-alarm fire caused significant damage to Angie’s Pizzeria on Route 10 in Swanzey late Friday night, forcing the longtime local restaurant to close for the foreseeable future.
Fire crews were dispatched to 920 West Swanzey Road around 10:10 p.m. after heavy smoke was reported coming from the building, according to Southwestern New Hampshire District Fire Mutual Aid. Responding units found flames in the attic with fire showing through the roof. Additional support was called in under a second alarm.
Firefighters worked for over two hours to bring the blaze under control, with command declaring the fire knocked down shortly before 11:30 p.m. and under control just after midnight. Crews cleared the scene around 12:30 a.m.
On Saturday morning, the restaurant’s roof showed visible fire damage, with debris including wood and burned insulation scattered on the ground. The interior dining area appeared to be largely unaffected. No injuries were reported, and everyone inside the building at the time was able to evacuate safely.
The Swanzey Fire Department has not released details on the cause of the fire. A request for comment on Saturday was not immediately returned.
The restaurant, which has operated in Swanzey for more than a decade, is expected to be closed for at least six months, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser launched by supporters in the hours following the fire. As of Saturday morning, the campaign had raised more than $5,000 toward a $10,000 goal to assist with rebuilding and recovery costs.
