WINCHESTER, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A multifamily home on Keene Road in Winchester sustained significant damage Saturday evening after a fire tore through its upper floors, according to fire officials.

Emergency crews arrived around 6:45 p.m. to find flames engulfing the second floor and roof of the Route 10 residence. Firefighters battled heavy smoke and wind as they worked to contain the blaze, which had spread rapidly through the structure.

Officials confirmed that all residents escaped safely, and no injuries were reported. The occupants of the building’s two apartments were able to find temporary shelter with family and friends and were in contact with the Red Cross for assistance.

Fire crews worked late into the night, with officials estimating that by 8:45 p.m., about 90 percent of the fire had been extinguished. However, thick smoke continued to rise from the building as firefighters monitored for remaining hot spots.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials believe the building is likely a total loss. Responding departments included Winchester, Northfield (Mass.), and Hinsdale fire crews.

Authorities temporarily closed a section of Route 10 between Julia Court and Mechanic Street while emergency responders worked the scene.
