FITZWILLIAM, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A weekend ATV ride ended in a medical helicopter evacuation and criminal charges after an accident on a private driveway left one man seriously injured, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.
Emergency crews were called to Fitzwilliam around 7 p.m. Saturday after reports of a crash involving a single all-terrain vehicle. Responding agencies included local police and fire departments from Fitzwilliam, Troy and Richmond, along with Cheshire County EMS.
Authorities say Daniel Pratt, 57, of Fitzwilliam, had been operating the ATV with one adult passenger when the passenger fell off. The man, whose name was not released, suffered significant injuries and was taken by ambulance to meet a UMass Life Flight helicopter. He was flown to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass., for further treatment.
Investigators believe alcohol and unsafe operation may have contributed to the incident. Pratt has been charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and is scheduled to appear in Jaffrey District Court on Sept. 3.
The investigation remains active, officials said.
