KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) As we mark Independence Day, we revisit a powerful and rarely heard moment in local and national history.
On June 25, 1999, during his first run for President, the late U.S. Senator John McCain of Arizona visited the WKBK Radio studios on Lamson Street in downtown Keene. Invited by broadcaster Dan Mitchell, Senator McCain recorded a special reading of the Declaration of Independence, bringing his distinct voice and deep reverence for American ideals to one of our nation’s founding documents.
This archived audio captures more than a reading—it’s a reflection on the principles of liberty, sacrifice, and democracy from a man who served his country in war and in Washington.
This Independence Day, we invite you to listen, reflect, and share this meaningful piece of history with your family, your community, and especially with those who serve.
Happy 4th of July from all of us at My Keene Now.
