KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Funeral services have been announced for Cheshire County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Chamberlain, as law enforcement agencies across the Monadnock Region prepare to honor his life and decades of service.

A law enforcement walkthrough is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 29, at 4 p.m. Agencies wishing to participate are asked to arrive no later than 3:30 p.m. at Cheshire Medical Center–West (the former Peerless Insurance building), located at 63 Maple Ave. in Keene. Officers will line up there before marching together to the funeral home to offer condolences and a formal salute to Chamberlain and his family.

Chamberlain, 55, of Marlborough, died Sunday, Dec. 21, at home surrounded by family after battling a terminal illness.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel, 44 Maple Ave. in Keene. A memorial service with military honors is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, also at the funeral chapel.

Chamberlain’s death has prompted an outpouring of support from police departments throughout Cheshire County, including a recent “blue wave” tribute involving an estimated 75 to 100 cruisers traveling from Keene through Marlborough past his home.

Chamberlain began his law enforcement career with the Marlborough Police Department in 1993 before spending the majority of his career with the Swanzey Police Department, where he served as a K-9 handler, corporal, sergeant and, beginning in 2012, lieutenant. He retired from Swanzey in 2019.

Following a brief retirement, Chamberlain returned to public service as a part-time deputy with the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Chamberlain served two tours during the First Gulf War, earning the National Defense Service Medal. Outside of law enforcement, he was active with the New Hampshire Working Dog Foundation and spent years coaching and volunteering with local youth athletic programs.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kathleen Chamberlain; his children, Cameron and Lauryn Chamberlain; and an extended family of relatives, friends and fellow officers.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Chamberlain’s memory may be made to Fisher House Boston or the New Hampshire Working Dog Foundation.
