MONADNOCK REGION, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Genesis HealthCare, one of the country’s largest skilled nursing operators, is assuring families and patients that its bankruptcy filing will not affect care at its three Monadnock Region facilities.
The Pennsylvania-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on July 9 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Texas as part of a financial restructuring effort. Genesis owns and operates the Keene Center, Applewood Center in Winchester, and Pheasant Wood Center in Peterborough.
Officials said the move is part of a plan to resolve longstanding debts and allow the company to focus on its core operations. “Our daily operations remain unchanged, and our commitment to those we serve continues uninterrupted,” Genesis wrote in a public statement. “There will be no expected impact to patient care as a result of this filing.”
The restructuring is aimed at shedding liabilities tied to former operations the company no longer manages. Genesis previously sold eight New Hampshire facilities, including Langdon Place of Keene, to 603Healthcare in 2024.
As part of the Chapter 11 filing, Genesis has secured $30 million in financing to support ongoing operations. The company emphasized that employees will retain their jobs, wages, and benefits during the court-supervised process, and that vendor relationships will remain intact.
Executive Chairman David Harrington said the filing marks a critical step in strengthening the company’s future. “To maintain our momentum, we must address our legacy debt structure,” he said in a press release. “The goal of this filing is to emerge a stronger, healthier company.”
Notices related to the bankruptcy have been sent to patients, residents, families, and other stakeholders in compliance with federal law. These notices are part of routine court-mandated procedures and do not signal any change in patient services, the company said.
Genesis, which specializes in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and senior living services, says it will continue providing updates on its restructuring through its website at www.genesishcc.com/announcement. Additional court documents can be found at https://dm.epiq11.com/Genesis.
For now, company leaders say their priority is maintaining stability for residents and staff alike. “We remain fully focused on providing the high-quality care you have come to expect,” said Chief Operating Officer Lauren Murray.
