MARLBOROUGH, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A Gilsum man has been indicted on felony charges after investigators say he forged checks tied to a Marlborough business, according to Police Chief Zachary D. Byam.
Chief Byam said the case began on Dec. 22, 2025, when the Marlborough Police Department received a report that fraudulent checks had been cashed against the account of Scrap-It, a business located along Route 12.
Following an investigation, police identified 42-year-old Eric J. Watson as a suspect. Byam said officers obtained a search warrant for Watson’s residence, which was executed Jan. 8 with assistance from the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office and the Nelson Police Department. Authorities reported no issues during the search and said they seized multiple computers along with materials believed to be used in the production of counterfeit checks.
Byam said investigators later secured a second warrant to review financial records, which yielded additional evidence supporting the case.
A Cheshire County grand jury returned the indictment on April 13, charging Watson with felony forgery.
Police have not released details on the total financial loss tied to the alleged scheme.
Byam said the department encourages anyone who suspects fraudulent activity to report it promptly, noting that early reporting can help limit financial damage and assist in investigations. Marlborough police can be reached at 603-876-3311.
