KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) City officials are preparing for the return of Green Up Keene, the annual community cleanup effort that brings residents together each spring to collect litter from local streets, parks, and trails.

This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, with organizers already coordinating volunteers and cleanup locations across the city. Participants can pick up supplies at a drive-thru station at the Keene Public Works Department on Marlboro Street between 8 a.m. and noon on the day of the event. Those unable to attend that morning may arrange to collect materials in advance during the week leading up to the cleanup.

In preparation, Public Works staff are mapping out cleanup zones, many of which have already been claimed by returning volunteers. Organizers say remaining areas are still available and encourage individuals and groups to sign up soon to secure a preferred location. Areas not confirmed by returning participants by April 17 will be reassigned.

Leading up to the event, dumpsters will be placed throughout the city to support cleanup efforts. Filled blue “New Hampshire the Beautiful” bags will be collected the following Monday.

Officials say participation has remained strong in recent years, with hundreds of volunteers contributing to the effort. Anyone interested in taking part can register in advance through the Public Works Department or show up the day of the event to be assigned a cleanup area.

City staff say the event continues to play an important role in maintaining Keene’s appearance following the winter months, when roadside litter tends to accumulate.
