CHESHIRE COUNTY, N.H. (MyKeeneN0w) Residents in Cheshire County and surrounding areas should prepare for significant rain and gusty winds starting Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, warns.
A flood watch is in effect from 2 p.m. Monday through Tuesday afternoon as heavy rain, combined with snowmelt, could cause rivers, streams, and low-lying areas to overflow. Forecasts call for widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches, which may trigger flooding in poorly drained urban areas and at low-water crossings. Residents in flood-prone locations are urged to monitor forecasts closely and be ready to act if flooding occurs.
In addition, a wind advisory will be in effect from 8 p.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Tuesday. South winds are expected to reach 15 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 50 mph in portions of southern and central New Hampshire and southwest Maine. The strong gusts could knock down tree limbs, blow around unsecured objects, and cause power outages. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should exercise extra caution.
Authorities advise everyone to stay alert to changing conditions, secure outdoor items, and avoid low-lying areas during periods of heavy rainfall.
