JAFFREY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A medical emergency on Mt. Monadnock prompted a dramatic helicopter rescue on Sunday, September 29, after a hiker experienced a potentially life-threatening condition.

Around 3:30 p.m., staff at Monadnock State Park received reports of a hiker in distress. A response team reached the hiker within minutes and assessed her condition. Realizing the severity of the situation, they determined she was facing a medical emergency that required urgent intervention.

By 4:00 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was alerted to the situation. Conservation officers quickly joined the effort, and due to the time-sensitive nature of the hiker’s condition, a decision was made to call for an emergency helicopter evacuation through Boston MedFlight.

Park rangers prepared a landing zone above the tree line as the helicopter approached. At approximately 5:00 p.m., the helicopter landed, and the hiker was promptly airlifted to Elliot Hospital in Manchester. The entire rescue operation moved swiftly, with the helicopter airborne again by 5:32 p.m.

The hiker’s identity has not been released as she continues to receive medical treatment.

In the wake of the incident, New Hampshire Fish and Game reminded hikers of the importance of traveling in groups to reduce the risks associated with medical emergencies in remote locations.
