JAFFREY, N.H. – (MyKeeneNow) An injured hiker was rescued from Mount Monadnock’s White Cross Trail Tuesday morning.
New Hampshire Fish and Game received an alert from SWNH District Fire Mutual Aid shortly before 8:30 .m. reporting Kathryn Shackford, of Harriman, N.Y., sustained a lower-leg injury and needed aid to get down the mountain.
Monadnock State Park staff responded to the scene, locating Shackford just under a mile from the park headquarters. After splinting her injury, they assisted her in walking approximately a quarter to half a mile. For the remaining distance, roughly half a mile, a rescue team including park staff, a Student Conservation Association group, and a conservation officer carried Shackford to safety. She reached the Monadnock Park headquarters trailhead at 2:30 p.m.
