ANTRIM, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) An investigation into a dog found abandoned at a rest stop in Antrim has led to the arrest of a Hillsboro resident.
Authorities say 67-year-old Aimee Scott turned herself in to police on Wednesday, nearly a month after a passerby reported seeing a van leave a black and white dog at the Concord Street rest area. The incident took place the morning of June 27, prompting a search for the animal and the person responsible.
The dog, later identified as a young black and brown Australian Shepherd, initially evaded capture but was eventually recovered thanks to efforts by local residents and Granite State Dog Recovery. Antrim Police began a criminal investigation shortly after the report came in and ultimately identified Scott as the suspect.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Scott on July 21, charging her with one count of animal cruelty, a Class B misdemeanor. She is scheduled to appear in Hillsboro District Court on September 2.
Antrim Police credited the community, fellow law enforcement in Hillsboro, and animal rescue volunteers for their role in helping care for the dog and supporting the investigation.
