KEENE, NH – (MyKeeneNow) Area police are still searching for one suspect in a pursuit that began in Massachusetts and made its way to Hinsdale, New Hampshire.

According to a news release from the Hinsdale Police Department, around 3:20 Tuesday afternoon police were notified that an officer in Warwick, MA had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene and had last been seen heading west on Route 119 towards Hinsdale.

An officer spotted the suspect vehicle in the area of Main Street in Hinsdale and it took off at a high rate of speed before crashing on Brattleboro Road, where the driver and passenger exited the vehicle and took off on foot.

Police caught and arrested the passenger, identified as Estrella Crespo. She’s charged with disobeying an officer.

The driver, identified as Michael Martelle, has not been apprehended. Police describe Martelle as a white male, medium build, last seen wearing black shorts and no shirt. Police are still searching for Martelle, anyone with information should contact the Hinsdale Police Department.

The Chesterfield and Winchester Police Department’s responded as well, along with the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office and the Keene Police Department with their K-9’s, NH Fish and Game, and the Rescue Inc. Technical Rescue Team.

Due to the proximity to the schools in Hinsdale, the elementary and high school were placed in a hold in place Tuesday afternoon and all activities at the school were cancelled. Schools were closed on Wednesday.

In an update late Wednesday afternoon Hinsdale police said Martelle has not been caught and it remains an active investigation. Police said there is nothing indicating that Martelle poses an immediate threat to the public, but is asking the community to remain vigilant and call police with any possible sightings.

Police also clarified that the town is not on lockdown but urged residents to be aware of their surroundings.

In a second update Wednesday evening, police said they no longer believe Martelle is still in the area, but advised residents to remain vigilant.
