KEENE, N.H. – (MyKeeneNow) The Historical Society of Cheshire County has named Jennifer “Jenna” Carroll as its new executive director, succeeding Alan F. Rumrill upon his retirement in October 2024. After a national search, the organization chose to hire an internal candidate.

Carroll has been a key figure at the Historical Society, serving as director of education for more than a decade and having 28 years of experience in museum management. Her appointment was announced by former board president Dominic Perkins, who expressed confidence in her abilities, citing her extensive background and previous leadership roles in similar organizations.

Carroll’s resume includes executive director roles at the American Clock and Watch Museum and the Laconia Historical and Museum Society. She has also worked at Canterbury Shaker Village, the Saco Museum, and the Sandwich (N.H.) Historical Society. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Carroll is actively involved in the community. She co-owns the Keene International Market, co-chairs Keene State College’s Little Sister Fund, and directs the Monadnock Historical Societies Forum. Additionally, she has been engaged with the Keene International Festival, Project Home, and the City of Keene’s Human Rights Committee. She was recently honored with the President’s Outstanding Women of New Hampshire Award from Keene State College.

Carroll’s leadership is anticipated to bring a fresh perspective to the Historical Society of Cheshire County, continuing its mission to connect people with the past and each other and strengthening its role as a cultural hub in southwest New Hampshire.
