JAFFREY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A hiker was rescued near the summit of Mount Monadnock Sunday after sustaining a leg injury while descending the mountain.
New Hampshire Fish and Game received a report just before 2:30 p.m. regarding the injured hiker, identified as 34-year-old Peter Marotta of Sharon, Mass. Monadnock State Park staff quickly located Marotta and his companion, helping them reach the tree line to take shelter from worsening weather conditions.
Additional park staff and a New Hampshire Fish and Game officer later arrived on the scene to assist. Despite the injury, Marotta was able to hike down the mountain with the help of rescuers. He was subsequently transported to a hospital by his hiking companion for further evaluation.
