JAFFREY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) — Two schools in Jaffrey were placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after reports surfaced that a student with a knife was inside Conant Middle/High School.

The lockdowns began at approximately 12:30 p.m. as police were alerted to the situation. At that time, authorities believed the student was still in the building. Witnesses later informed police that the student had exited the premises.

By the afternoon, the student was in police custody. There were no injuries reported.

Superintendent Reuben Duncan sent a message to parents, reassuring them that both Conant Middle/High School and Jaffrey Grade School were secure. Duncan also noted that police were conducting a secondary search as a precautionary measure.

Following the search, the lockdowns were lifted, according to a social media post from the Jaffrey-Rindge Cooperative School District, and the schools were cleared at about 1:55 p.m. However, dismissal at Conant Middle/High School was delayed by around 10 minutes.

Duncan later provided an update, confirming that police had found no further threats. Normal dismissal procedures resumed, although some bus delays were expected. Parents picking up students from Conant were directed to the Pratt Gymnasium for reunification. Jaffrey Grade School continued its schedule for the remainder of the day and dismissed students at the usual time.
