Born on June 29, 1942, in Springfield, MA to Joseph L. De Maria and Margaret L. (Harrigan) De Maria, Skip was the oldest of seven children and a lifelong resident of Enfield, CT until his retirement where he and his wife Lois settled in Keene.
After graduating from Enfield High School, Skip worked briefly for developer S. Leger Starr, then went on to become a very successful entrepreneur, operating De Maria Enterprises and Laurel Promotional Printing. As he began to transition into retirement, he had the opportunity to focus on his passion, fishing. He opened an online fishing tackle supply company, and founded the Connecticut River Tournament Trail. Most recently, he enjoyed sitting out on his front porch drinking his morning coffee enjoying the fresh air, light breeze, chirping birds and greeting his fellow neighbors.
Skip leaves behind his wife, Lois (Mycek) with whom he spent 60 beautiful years and four children, Megan Sawyer (Sylvester); Kim Sweeney (Ian); he also leaves his only son and youngest daughter who have requested privacy at this time.
In addition to his children, he leaves behind three grandchildren: Ted Sweeney, Kaden De Maria and Kyla De Maria along with one great-grandchild, Elizabeth (Lizzy) Sawyer.
Skip was predeceased by his sister, Donna, and leaves his remaining five siblings, Barbara, Margaret (Peggy), Thomas (Tommy), Robert (Bobby) and William (Billy) along with their spouses and families and many life-long friends.
Anyone that met Skip, their life was forever changed. He was a kind, caring man not without faults, but a human being who made an impact in so many lives. Please join us in celebrating Skip’s life; services will be Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Martha’s Church 214 Brainard Road, Enfield, CT.
