BERNARDSTON, MA (MyKeeneNow) – A juvenile has been taken into custody following a pursuit Monday morning.

Shortly after 7:00 this morning Brattleboro Police received a request from the Hinsdale, New Hampshire Police Department to assist with a 14-year-old with a mental health emergency.

According to a news release from the Brattleboro Police Department, while officers were responding the juvenile stole a family members vehicle and fled from officers.

Roadblocks were set up on both the old and new Route 119 bridges at the Vermont/New Hampshire state line where the juvenile proceeded through the blocks, nearly striking two Brattleboro Police officers.

Police followed the suspect south on Canal Street and terminated the emergency pursuit but continued following at a safe distance. Police in Bernardston, Massachusetts were then notified and successfully deployed spike strips to pop the vehicles tires.

The Bernardston Police Department said that the suspect then began intentionally causing significant property damage in the area of Kringle Candle.

According to the news release from Brattleboro Police, the 14-year-old suspect collided with several pieces of private property in a Bernardston parking lot before colliding with a second Brattleboro Police cruiser in that same lot, and was eventually boxed in.

The juvenile was taken into protective custody and transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center for mental health concerns. No one was injured in the incident.

Officers from both the Gill and Greenfield Massachusetts Police Departments, along with the Bernardston Fire department, and Northfield EMS.

The incident remains under investigation.
