SURRY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow)– A young passenger was airlifted to a trauma center following a serious single-vehicle accident in Surry Monday.

N.H. State Police responded to a call about a crash on Pond Road just before 4 p.m., according to a news release. Upon arrival, they discovered a 2011 Nissan Altima that had veered off the road, sustaining significant damage. A juvenile passenger was found trapped inside the vehicle.

Emergency response teams from the Surry Fire Department and Keene Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene and successfully extricated the passenger, who was first taken to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene for immediate care but was later transported by helicopter to a specialized trauma center due to the severity of the injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, also a juvenile, was evaluated at the scene and found to be unharmed. The driver was subsequently cited for speeding.
