KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The Keene SwampBats have postponed Saturday’s scheduled game against the Vermont Mountaineers because of the forecasted weather conditions and will make up the game Tuesday, July 21, at Alumni Field.
The postponement also moves the planned Savings Bank of Walpole Community Night from Saturday, July 18, to Saturday, July 25, where it will now be combined with Ripken Reese Night during the SwampBats’ matchup against the Sanford Mainers.
The July 25 event will offer free admission and entertainment for fans of all ages, along with a special celebration honoring one of the greatest players in SwampBats history.
Reese, a Kent State standout, helped lead Keene to its sixth New England Collegiate Baseball League championship last summer with a memorable postseason performance highlighted by a walk-off grand slam. He will return to Alumni Field to meet fans, sign autographs and share memories from his time with the team.
Fans will have the opportunity to receive signed baseballs, baseball cards and photos courtesy of Reese, along with limited-edition Ripken Reese merchandise. Reese will also throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.
Longtime SwampBats supporters recognize Reese as one of the most accomplished players in franchise history. During Keene’s championship run, he hit .370 in the postseason with three home runs and 14 RBI. He also holds a unique place in team history as the only SwampBat to play all nine defensive positions in a single game.
In addition to the on-field celebration, Savings Bank of Walpole Community Night will bring a full evening of family entertainment to Alumni Field. Activities will run from 5 to 8 p.m., with the game against Sanford beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Community Night activities will include bounce houses from Bounce Above The Rest Inflatables, Tito’s Taco Truck, All Things Maple Fried Dough, Milla’s Magic Treasures, Fairy Hair by Jess, a Luxury Box Photo Booth, The Roaming Railroad train, a performance by The Colonial Theatre, and a petting zoo hosted by Amazing Grace Animal Sanctuary.
Fans can also connect with local nonprofits, enter prize drawings, and meet Ribby, the SwampBats mascot.
Admission and entertainment are free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase through SwampBats concession stands.
The postponed game against the Vermont Mountaineers will now be played Tuesday, July 21, as the makeup date for Saturday’s weather-related postponement. The combined Ripken Reese Night and Savings Bank of Walpole Community Night will take place Saturday, July 25, when the SwampBats host the Sanford Mainers at Alumni Field.
