KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Road closures, parking restrictions and utility work will affect several areas of Keene this week as crews continue the Central Square reconstruction and carry out paving, water and sewer installations, and other infrastructure projects.

The city’s Public Works Department has outlined work scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26, through Friday, Oct. 30. Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists should watch for changing traffic patterns and allow extra time when traveling through construction zones.

Central Square Work Brings Detours and Parking Restrictions

Casella Construction will continue installing water mains and connecting water services around Central Square. Crews made progress last week installing water main along the southeast side of the Square toward Roxbury Street and connecting the new infrastructure to existing water mains on Court Street and Washington Street.

This week, workers will continue water main installation along the east side of the Square near Roxbury Street and make water service connections near City Hall. The newly installed water main around the Square also is scheduled to be filled and pressure-tested early in the week.

Crews will begin sewer and drainage improvements at the Roxbury Street intersection and conduct exploratory excavation along Main Street, north from Water Street, to locate existing underground utilities.

The Roxbury Street intersection with Central Square will remain closed throughout the week. Drivers traveling from Roxbury Street toward the Square will be detoured via Franklin Street and Beaver Street.

Temporary lane shifts and closures also are planned on Main Street between Water Street and Central Square, on both the north and south sides of the roadway.

Several parking spaces on the east and west sides of Central Square will be closed daily beginning at 7 a.m. and remaining unavailable until work is completed. Spaces marked with orange cones or barriers are designated as no-parking zones.

Nearby public parking lots will remain available. Locations and additional information can be found on the City of Keene’s Parking Services webpage.

Crews may work beyond 5 p.m. to take advantage of daylight and favorable weather, maintain the construction schedule and restore traffic lanes and parking by the end of each workday.

Bartholomew Court to Close for Final Paving

Bazin Brothers Trucking is scheduled to begin final paving on Bartholomew Court at 7 a.m. Monday. The road will be closed while the work is underway, which is expected to take one day.

Visitors to the Public Works Department should park at Keene Ice during the closure. Normal traffic conditions are expected to return by the end of the day.

The same contractor also will complete landscaping, install signs and clean up along Marlboro Street between Eastern Avenue and Main Street. Temporary traffic adjustments may be necessary around the work areas.

George Street Bridge Closure Continues

George Street will remain closed as New England Infrastructure continues utility installations and cleanup around the George Street Bridge.

Motorists must follow the established detour for the duration of construction. Work is expected to continue for approximately five more weeks before the project pauses for the winter.

Pool Renovation Moves Forward at Robin Hood Park

Work on the Robin Hood Park Pool project is scheduled to advance Monday, when contractor Weston & Sampson CMR begins demolishing the existing concrete pool deck.

More Water and Sewer Work on Morin Avenue and Kelleher Street

Frank Lucius Construction will install water and sewer services near 28 Morin Avenue on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Morin Avenue will be closed to through traffic during the work, which is expected to be completed that day.

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, Mike Pappas Construction will install a water service on Kelleher Street near Marlboro Street. Traffic will be shifted through the work area, but two-way travel will be maintained. The work is expected to take one day, with normal traffic conditions restored by the end of the day.

Drivers Urged to Use Caution

Construction schedules and traffic impacts may change as work progresses. The city asks motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to obey posted signs and traffic controls, slow down near workers and equipment, and use caution when traveling through active work zones.
