KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Cheshire Medical Center has named Dr. David F. Horne as its first chief of dermatology, marking a significant step in expanding dermatologic care in the Monadnock Region.
Horne, who began his role in December, had previously spent a year at Cheshire as a temporary provider, according to a news release. His appointment is part of the hospital’s broader plan to increase access to dermatology services.
“We are thrilled to bring Dr. Horne to Cheshire Medical Center and the Keene community as our first chief of dermatology,” said Joseph L. Perras, MD, president and CEO of Cheshire Medical Center. “Working with Drs. Guardiano and Seymour, Dr. Horne will expand dermatology services in Keene and help us train the next generation of physicians and associate providers. Dr. Horne brings a wealth of leadership experience in dermatology practices across the globe. We welcome him to our community.”
Horne earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the release said. He also holds a bachelor of science in biology from Davidson College and a master of public health from Johns Hopkins University. Before joining Cheshire, he served as lead dermatology physician at Northern Light Health in Maine.
“Dr. Horne’s position at Cheshire is a welcome addition to the Dartmouth Health dermatology team,” said M. Shane Chapman, MD, chair of dermatology at Dartmouth Health. “My team looks forward to working closely with him to expand our coordination of care, sharing of best practices and collaborating on some of the more complex diseases that we treat. Dr. Horne’s expertise will enhance our comprehensive dermatologic care across our region.”
Horne said the decision to stay at Cheshire was an easy one.
“I came to New Hampshire expecting to work temporarily, but really fell in love with the region and people,” he said. “Everyone I’ve met at Cheshire has been warm, welcoming and focused on patient care. It was an easy decision when I was asked to join and lead the team.”
Cheshire Medical Center’s dermatology team offers routine skin exams, specialized skin cancer treatments, cosmetic services, and general dermatology for patients of all ages. Those interested in dermatology care can seek a referral from their primary care provider.
