KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A 22-year-old Keene man has been charged with multiple felony offenses following a months-long investigation into allegations that he communicated with and assaulted a minor he met through social media.
Austin Bailey is accused of using Snapchat and text messaging to communicate with a child, allegedly sending explicit images and later engaging in sexual contact, according to court records filed in Cheshire County Superior Court.
The investigation began in June, when the alleged victim reported the incident to police. In an affidavit, Rindge Police Detective Christopher Martin wrote that the child told officers she had interacted with Bailey online before meeting him in person at several locations.
Detectives later obtained a search warrant for Bailey’s Snapchat account. Police say a review of those records showed multiple explicit photographs allegedly sent to the child. Investigators also reported finding numerous explicit images involving girls believed to be of high school age, according to the affidavit.
Bailey now faces four felony counts of transmitting lewd images to a child under 16, one count of felonious sexual assault involving penetration of a victim between the ages of 13 and 15, and a felony count of prohibited use of a computer. He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of sexual assault involving sexual contact.
Court records list the alleged offenses as occurring on multiple dates in June. Bailey is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Cheshire County Superior Court.
