KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The investigation into a police shooting last year in Keene has concluded with state officials determining the officer involved acted lawfully.
New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella announced the New Hampshire Department of Justice has released its final report on the April 29 incident, finding that Keene Police Officer Jake Dube was legally justified in his use of deadly force.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of Baker and Colby streets, where Dube—then a three-year veteran of the department—fired a single shot that struck 25-year-old Cullen Costa in the chest during an encounter. Costa was taken to a local hospital and was reported in stable condition following the incident.
At the time, authorities said few details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting would be made public while the investigation remained active. The case was led by Senior Assistant Attorneys General R. Christopher Knowles and Joshua L. Speicher.
With the investigation now complete and related legal matters resolved, state officials say their review of the evidence determined that Dube’s actions were justified under New Hampshire law. Costa survived his injuries.
The Attorney General’s Office did not release additional details about the events that led up to the shooting in its final report.
