KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A Sullivan man’s push to reopen discussion on a gravel pit expansion in Keene has been rejected, with city planners voting unanimously Friday night to stand by their earlier approval of the project.
The board’s 5-0 decision means Jaffrey-based G2 Holdings can continue advancing its 13-year plan to extend operations up Nims Hill and eventually across the town line into Sullivan.
Abutter Jim Manley, who has fought the proposal for nearly a year, argued in his appeal that the board broke state and local rules when it approved the project earlier this month. But members concluded his filing offered no new information.
Friday’s meeting, chaired by Vice Chair Roberta Mastrogiovanni in the absence of Chair Harold Farrington, lasted about 40 minutes and did not allow public comment. Both Manley and representatives of G2 were present, submitting written statements ahead of the vote.
Manley has vowed to take the matter to court.
The expansion received a 7-1 approval from the board on Sept. 8, with conditions including replanting deforested land, coordinating with the N.H. Department of Transportation on traffic concerns, vibration monitoring, and maintaining a $5 million liability insurance policy.
The Sullivan Zoning Board is expected to weigh in on the portion of the project within its town boundaries on Oct. 15.
