KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) An early-morning report of gunshots on Keene’s east side led to a heavy law enforcement presence Wednesday, but officials say no one was hurt and no criminal activity is suspected.
According to Keene police, officers were dispatched to Wilford Street at 6:39 a.m. after a caller reported hearing two gunshots and seeing a man with a long gun near 62 Wilford St.
Police say cooperation from residents at the address was limited at first, prompting officers to establish a perimeter and call in support from several agencies, including the New Hampshire State Police, Conservation Officers, the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Department, and Walpole Police.
Everyone inside the home was eventually identified and accounted for, and investigators located and interviewed a man who had left the area before officers arrived.
Authorities say the noise the witness heard was likely the discharge of an air rifle, which was recovered at the scene.
No injuries were reported, and police say they do not anticipate filing any charges related to the incident.
