KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Residents and businesses in downtown Keene should expect brief disruptions as city crews conduct an in-depth survey of the area’s sanitary sewer system next week. This preliminary work, aimed at assessing the current state of the sewer infrastructure, is part of a larger Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project, which will ultimately lead to a series of upgrades in the area.
In partnership with engineering firm Stantec and their sub-consultant Acqualis, the city plans to perform a televised inspection of the sewer main along Main Street, from Marlboro Street to Central Square, as well as some nearby streets, according to a news release from the City’s Department of Public Works. Over three days—Nov. 12, 13, and 14—the inspection will run from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day, weather permitting.
Crews will use specialized equipment, including a jetting/vacuum truck and a closed-circuit television (CCTV) box truck, to clean and examine the sewer pipes. The CCTV system provides a real-time video feed that enables engineers to spot any damage, blockages, or other issues requiring attention as the larger project moves forward.
To accommodate these operations, certain traffic lanes and parking spaces may be temporarily closed near manhole access points. Keene’s Public Works and Police departments are coordinating to minimize disruptions and manage any traffic redirections.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to plan ahead for possible impacts to parking and traffic flow during these hours, as the city works to prepare the sewer system for future improvements designed to support a more resilient downtown infrastructure.
