KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Keene drivers can expect delays and detours on Tuesday, Aug. 26, as the city continues its Pavement Preservation Project.

Crews will be applying a fog-seal treatment to several streets, a process designed to extend the life of the pavement but one that requires roadways to be closed for short periods.

Work is scheduled to begin in the morning, between 8 a.m. and noon, on Avalon Place, Bridge Court, Fowler Street, Kingsbury Street, Richardson Court, South Street and Valley Street.

In the afternoon, from noon to 4 p.m., work will shift to Gilsum Street — from Howard Street/Colony Court to its northern end — and to North Street between Elm and Gilsum streets.

The sealer being applied cannot be driven or walked on until it cures. City officials are asking residents, pedestrians and pet owners to avoid the treated surfaces until roads are reopened. Closures could last up to two hours and may affect access to nearby driveways.

Traffic control staff will be on hand to guide drivers, and detours will be marked. Motorists should allow extra travel time and plan alternate routes while the work is underway.
