KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Kim Rumrill, executive director of The Keene Senior Center, appeared on Good Morning with Dan Mitchell on WKBK Radio today to discuss a recent $15,000 grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation (NHCF).

The grant, supported by the Katherine J. Judson Fund and the Mary Jean Long Fund, will be used to hire a nonprofit development and strategic planning specialist to help secure sustainable funding for the center, according to a news release.

The Keene Senior Center serves more than 400 seniors in the community, offering wellness programs, educational opportunities, social events, and entertainment, the release said. Through its Cheshire Village at Home program, the center also provides essential services such as transportation, household assistance, and daily check-in calls to help seniors remain independent.

With no direct state funding available for senior centers in New Hampshire, financial sustainability remains a key focus. The NHCF grant will help the organization plan for the future and better navigate financial challenges like those experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rumrill also highlighted the center’s second annual Key Runway 5K fundraiser, set for May 18 at the Keene Airport. The event will bring the community together in support of the center’s programs and services.

Located at 312 Marlboro St., Suite 100, The Keene Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Annual membership is $75, providing access to most activities at no additional cost. More information is available at thekeeneseniorcenter.org or by calling 352-5037.
