KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The Keene State College women’s basketball team had another win on Wednesday night in impressive fashion. The Owls faced off against UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference action and ended the game with another milestone in what has seemed like a season full of them. Head Coach Keith Boucher, in his 37th year as the head coach of the women’s basketball team, reached 500 career wins with the 50-39 victory.
Boucher, a Lebanon, N.H. native and a graduate of Plymouth State University where he was a two sport athlete in football and baseball, began coaching the Owls in 1990. His coaching career began with coaching the Timberlane boy’s basketball team before moving to Norwich as an assistant coach. Boucher’s 400th career collegiate win was almost a decade to the day of his 500th, with his 400th win coming on Feb. 13, 2016.
It was a low scoring game, as the Owls had barely cracked 20 points by the half, scoring eight points in the first quarter and 13 points in the second quarter. The Owls did outscore their opponents in third quarter but entered the final 10 minutes down by three points. In the final 10 minutes, the Owls sealed their victory; they held UMass Dartmouth scoreless in the final quarter.
UMass Dartmouth could not buy a basket, finishing the fourth quarter 0-for-9 from the field with six turnovers, while the Owls ended the contest on a 21-0 scoring run for the 50-39 victory.
Brynn Rautiola scored almost half of her teams points, as she finished Tuesday’s contest with 23 points to go along with three rebounds, an assist and a steal. She is only two points away from becoming the sixth-leading scorer in program history. Ruby Dasaro was the only other Owl who ended in the double figures, as she finished with 14 points on 41 percent shooting. Dasaro had eight rebounds and was active on defense, ending with four steals.
Boucher became the 68th active head coach across the NCAA’s three divisions to reach 500 career wins.
Keene State is on the road for their next contest as the Owls take on the University of Massachusetts-Boston, looking for the season sweep over the Beacons on Saturday, Jan. 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
