KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) For the second time this season, a member of the Keene State College women’s basketball team has crossed over the 1,000-career points threshold.
Valerie Luizzi joined teammate Brynn Rautiola in the exclusive club on Tuesday night, hitting exactly 1,000 points with two free throws in the first half of the Owls dominating 75-49 win over Plymouth State University, which improved the KSC women’s basketball team’s Little East Conference record to 3-1.
Luizzi wasn’t done, as the Owls opened the second half against PSU on an 11-7 run, with all 11 points being scored by Luizzi. She ended the night with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.
Those rebounding and assist numbers are important too; her seven rebounds propelled her to over 400 rebounds in her collegiate career, making her just the ninth member of an exclusive club of Owls with over 1,000 career points and 400 career rebounds. Her three assists gave her 192 in her time at KSC, putting her at 15th on the list for most assists as an Owl.
A four-year starter at Keene since her freshman season, Luizzi has averaged double-digit points since her sophomore season and is averaging just over 12 points a game this season. She’s also added more assists this year than is seasons passed, as her current average of 2.9 a game would be her career high for a season.
Luizzi has played no small part in getting the Owls into the position they’re currently in this season, tied for second in the conference and having close to 200 more total points than the second closest team, that being first place Southern Maine.
Keene State College is next in action on Thursday against Eastern Connecticut. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Keene.
