KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – The City of Keene will swear in several new and returning City Councilors on New Years Day.
The ceremony is scheduled for noon in the Council Chambers at City Hall and will formally begin the 2026–2027 Keene City Council term.
Mayor Jay Kahn said the New Year’s Day inauguration continues a long-standing city tradition and reflects the council’s commitment to public service.
“Each of us ran because of our pride in the city and a desire to build on a legacy of success and progress,” Kahn said in a news release. “This Council will bring creativity, sound judgment, and representative government to the decisions needed to sustain and enhance the quality of life in our city.”
Councilors to be inaugurated include Kris E. Roberts and Jacob R. Favolise in Ward 1; Edward Haas in Ward 2; Molly Ellis in Ward 3; Catherine Workman in Ward 4; and Philip M. Jones in Ward 5. At-large councilors being sworn in are Bettina A. Chadbourne, Randy L. Filiault, Mitchell H. Greenwald, Michele Chalice, and Laura Ruttle-Miller.
Councilor’s Haas and Greenwald are essentially swapping seats; Haas is moving from Councilor At-Large to Ward 2 Councilor, while Councilor Greenwald is moving from Ward 2 to At-Large, which is a shorter term.
Ellis, Chalice, and Ruttle-Miller are all newcomers to the council.
Terms for several ward councilors run through December 31, 2029, while others, including the at-large councilors and one Ward 1 seat, will serve terms ending December 31, 2027.
The inauguration is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend as the City Council begins a new term of service.
