KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – The City of Keene offered kids the opportunity to learn what it’s like to vote at this week’s Community Night.
The event featured a light-hearted ice cream election, where the City Clerk’s office created an ice cream ballot, similar to what an actual ballot looks like on Election Day, including write-ins.
51 voters participated in the election. The candidates for ice cream on the ballot included vanilla, chocolate, and cotton candy. It also featured votes for cones —waffle or sugar— and toppings including chocolate or rainbow sprinkles.
Chocolate ice cream, a waffle cone, and rainbow sprinkles were the big winners, with 17, 24, and 27 votes, respectively.
Top write-ins for ice cream flavors included strawberry, with four write-ins, and mint chocolate chip with three. Black raspberry, twist, cookie dough, sherbet, “Chubby Hubby”, maple walnut, butterscotch, and coffee all earned one write-in vote.
For cones, a dipped waffle cone got one write-in, and a dish got six. Gummy worms got a couple of write-ins for toppings, while whipped cream and M&M’s got one each.
The mock election was part of the city’s annual Community Night, held at the Public Works Department and Police Department at 350 Marlboro Street Tuesday evening.
