KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) With the Keene State College men’s basketball team wrapping up its slate of regular season games over the weekend, senior forward Leo Chaikin was honored by the Little East Conference for his achievements for the week of Feb. 16-22, the last of the regular season in LEC basketball.
Chaikin was a dominant force during this week, helping Owls go undefeated over their two games. Against Eastern Connecticut State University, Chaikin scored a game-high 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting, good for 66.7 percent from the field in the Owls’ 73-57 victory, which went along with eight rebounds.
In the final game of the regular season, his Senior Day, Chaikin recorded a game-high 22 points on 9-for-11 shooting, good for 81.8 percent from the floor, picking up his second double-double on the season as he also grabbed 10 rebounds and had four assists in KSC’s 90-69 win.
Heading into the LEC Basketball Tournament, Chaikin is playing his best basketball of the season, as there has only been one time in his past 10 games that he hasn’t scored in double digits. Every time he has scored in double digits, it’s been 14 points or more.
Chaikin and the Owls return to the court at home in the LEC Quarterfinals against Rhode Island College on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m.
If that matchup sounds familiar, that’s because Keene State just played RIC on Chaikin’s Senior Day where he had one of the best games of his career. The Owls saw four players score in double figures on the Feb. 21 matchup, with Jordan Cooper, Mitch Shettles and Liam Johnston joining Chaikin in the club.
In last year’s LEC Tournament, the Owls cruised to the championship, receiving a bye and winning by double digits in both of their contests. This year, they’ll have to play in all three rounds if they want to bring a Little East trophy back to Keene.
