The Cheshire County Conservation District (CCCD) announced a series of upcoming family-friendly events designed to engage, educate, and inspire the community about conservation and sustainable practices.
Pollinator Palooza
Date: June 25
Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Ashuelot River Park, Keene
Join staff for an afternoon of learning and celebration of pollinators following National Pollinator Week (June 17-23) Learn more from organizations throughout our region, and enjoy games and activities for participants of all ages.
Activities include pollinator bingo, honeycomb coloring, caterpillar exploration, painting your own pot for a native plant, and more. This event is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine.
Small-Scale Forest Products Workshop
Date: June 26
Time: 4 to 6 p.m.
Location: Distant Hill Gardens, Walpole
The Forest Stewardship Summer Series of educational events will focus on private forest stewardship and conservation, with the goal to facilitate communication among forest owners, practitioners, and educators and to strengthen an ethic of forest stewardship in the region.
Licensed forester and experienced logger, Peter Renzelman, will discuss the tools and skills needed to extract firewood from your woodlot safely and efficiently, including basic chainsaw maintenance and care, personal protective equipment, hazard and situational awareness, chainsaw safety best practices, and a felling and limbing demonstration.
There will also be a demonstration by Jan Galloway of Far Hills Forest Products of a portable Wood-Mizer sawmill. She will be milling both hemlock logs into lumber for Leopold benches, and re-sawing large white pine timbers into boards and smaller dimension timbers.
This workshop is presented by Cheshire County Conservation District (CCCD), Distant Hill Gardens, UNH Cooperative Extension, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), and The Monadnock Conservancy
Registration is free, but slots are limited. Donations to the sponsoring organizations are welcomed and encouraged.
Equipment Field Day
Date: July 16
Time: 10 a.m. to noon
Location: Ballam Farm, Walpole
This July field day will focus specifically on no-till seed drills and spreaders.
See equipment in action and hear from service providers and other farmers about utilizing equipment for field renovation, establishing forage stands, fall seeding, and weed management.
This event is presented by Cheshire County Conservation District (CCCD), UNH Cooperative Extension, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), and The Connecticut River Watershed Farmers Alliance
While this event is free to attend, registration is required.
Please Note: Pets are not allowed at CCCD events. Service animals trained to to aid a person with a disability are welcome.
