CONCORD, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A New Hampshire man accused of killing the mother of his children, fleeing the scene and triggering an Amber Alert that ended in Keene, has been found guilty of multiple charges
Following a six-day trial in Coos County Superior Court, Dustin Duren was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Caitlyn Naffziger, along with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, Duren fatally shot Naffziger in the head in a Main Street, Berlin apartment on February 29, 2024. Duren said in court he thought Naffziger was about to kidnap one of his daughters at the time of the shooting. He then fled the scene with his two young daughters, and they were found the next morning in the Applebee’s parking lot on Key Road in Keene. Duren was taken into custody, and the two girls were evaluated by Keene Fire/EMS and were found to be uninjured.
“This verdict brings accountability for the tragic and senseless death of Caitlyn Naffziger,” Attorney General John Formella said in a news release. “We appreciate the jury’s careful consideration and extend thanks to our entire trial team for their tireless work, as well as to the law enforcement officers from the New Hampshire State Police, Berlin Police Department, and Keene Police Department whose professionalism and dedication were critical to this investigation.”
Duren is scheduled to be sentenced on December 11 at 10:00 a.m. He’s being held without bail in the custody of the Coos County Sheriff’s Department pending sentencing.
