MARLBOROUGH N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – An employee of the Extra Space Storage facility on Route 12 in Marlborough was killed Thursday after the golf cart he was operating rolled over.
First responders received the report a couple minutes before noon Thursday after an employee of a nearby motel witnessed the accident and called 911, according to the Marlborough Police Department. Crews from the Marlborough Police and Fire/Rescue Departments responded and found Iain Walton, 62, of Peterborough, pinned underneath the golf cart. He was extricated and despite lifesaving measures including the deployment of an AED, he was transported to Cheshire Medical Center and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police said Walton was working alone at the time of the incident. Following an on-scene investigation police believe Walton had been attempting to make a three-point turn when the machine rolled backwards over the edge of the steep embankment in neutral. The cart was equipped with seatbelts, but they were not being used at the time of the crash.
The Marlborough Police Department called it an “unfortunate accident” and said there are no criminal charges anticipated as a result.
