ANTRIM, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A Hillsboro man is in custody after leading police on a pursuit beginning in Antrim.
The Antrim Police Department says an officer was on routine patrol Tuesday night and saw a vehicle run a stop sign at the intersection of Concord Street/Route 202 and Main Street shortly before 9:30 pm. As the vehicle continued north on Clinton Road/Route 31 the officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to pull the vehicle over.
The driver, identified as Gabriel Stumpfol, 28, of Hillsboro, refused to stop and began traveling at a high rate of speed, according to a news release from Antrim Police. The officer lost sight of the vehicle while another officer in the area attempted to stop Stumpfol at the intersection of Clinton Road and Keene Road/Route 9. Stumpfol continued to evade police and began traveling east on Keene Road reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
Stumpfol continued heading east towards Hillsboro, and Hillsboro Police took lead of the pursuit.
The Henniker Police Department successfully deployed spike strips near the Henniker Street exit of Route 202/Route 9. The vehicle continued for about another mile into the town of Henniker before Stumpfol stopped and surrendered to police.
Stumpfol was arrested and is facing several charges from Antrim Police, including two counts Disobeying an Officer, Reckless Operation, Negligent Driving, Speeding, and two counts for failing to stop at a stop sign. He was held at the Hillsborough County Jail pending arraignment.
