BRATTLEBORO, VT (MyKeeneNow) A Putney man was hospitalized Wednesday night after he was struck by a car while crossing Route 5 near the Brattleboro-Dummerston town line during a police investigation, according to Vermont State Police.

Authorities identified the pedestrian as 42-year-old Terry Parson Jr. of Putney, who had earlier been involved in a traffic stop conducted by Brattleboro police around 8:49 p.m. Officers said Parson was released from the stop and allowed to leave on foot but later returned to the area.

At approximately 9:46 p.m., as Parson crossed US Route 5, he was hit by a northbound 2018 Jeep Renegade driven by Alexis M. Folk, 33, of Springfield, Massachusetts, police said. The crash occurred in Dummerston, just over the town line from Brattleboro.

Emergency responders from Brattleboro Fire Department, Dummerston Fire Department, Rescue Inc., and Vermont State Police were called to the scene. Brattleboro officers who were still nearby rendered immediate aid until medical crews arrived.

Parson was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The Vermont State Police have taken over the crash investigation, while Brattleboro police continue to handle matters related to the original traffic stop. No arrests were reported.

A routine traffic stop on Route 5 Wednesday night took an alarming turn when a pedestrian was struck by a passing vehicle as police conducted an ongoing investigation.

According to Brattleboro police, officers pulled over a vehicle around 8:49 p.m. near the Brattleboro-Dummerston town line, according to a news release from the Brattleboro Police Department. During the stop, several searches were carried out involving the occupants of the car. One man, a 42-year-old from Putney, had been cleared to leave but remained on foot near the scene.

Just before 9:40 p.m., the man was hit by a car driven by Alexis M. Folk of Springfield, MA, police said. Officers provided first aid until emergency responders arrived. Crews from the Brattleboro Fire Department, Dummerston Fire Department, Rescue Inc., and Vermont State Police converged at the location.

The injured man was taken to the hospital with what authorities described as non-life-threatening injuries. The Vermont State Police are now leading the investigation into the crash, while Brattleboro officers continue to handle the original traffic stop case.

Police did not report any arrests connected to the initial stop.
