KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – One man was seriously injured in a mountain bike crash late Friday afternoon.
First responders with the Keene Fire Department responded to Granite Gorge Mountain Park around 5 pm Friday where a news release says the man crashed following a jump on the Reptar Trail.
The man, who was not identified, was located half a mile from the base lodge, and the remote nature of the trail system, mountainous terrain, and the man’s injuries made response efforts more difficult.
Keene fire personnel utilized off-road equipment to reach the man and transport him to a waiting ambulance.
He was eventually airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon with traumatic injuries. The DHART helicopter landed in the Granite Gorge parking lot, according to the release.
The fire department didn’t elaborate on the exact nature of the man’s injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The department is reminding riders of the importance of wearing appropriate mountain biking safety equipment, including a helmet and chest protector, and to ride in groups when away from roadways and public access.
Paramedics with the Keene Fire Department were assisted on scene by Granite Gorge Personnel, and the Swanzey Fire Department covered the Keene station.
